Celebrate creativity, play and our littlest people when the Cairns Children's Festival returns this weekend.

An annual celebration for children aged 12 years and under, the festival aims to put our youngest creatives in the spotlight in a safe and fun environment for families to explore, create and imagine.

The festival will take place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May, with events spread across three venues – the Cairns Performing Arts Centre; the Court House Gallery; and Tanks Arts Centre.

Division 6 Councillor Kristy Vallely said there was something for every little person and their family to see and do at Cairns Children’s Festival.

“With this year's incredible line-up, we anticipate the festival to be the largest ever, with over 6,000 attendees expected over the course of the weekend.” Cr Vallely said.

“We’ve got 18 events over two action-packed days, from captivating performances to engaging activities, there's something for everyone to enjoy throughout the entire festival.”

At the Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) on Saturday, visitors will be treated to a variety of performances and activities, including The Listies with ROFL, a hilarious and engaging show that will have children and adults alike “Rolling on The Floor Laughing”.

There’s also Patch Theatre's illuminating interactive installation Sea of Light at CPAC, which takes children on a journey of light and imagination, and a pop-up radio station where participants can make their own news segments and playlists.

There is an immersive theatre experience at the Court House Gallery on Saturday, with The Last Collection presented by Occupied Spaces, and the Tell Me A Story exhibition.

On Sunday, Tanks Arts Centre will come alive with over 12 free events, including Birmba, a story about three cheeky cockatoos, showcasing First Nation stories that will delight and educate young visitors.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through Ticketlink.com.au.
