Redlynch Village intersection upgrade

The Kamerunga Road / Redlynch Intake Road intersection will undergo a major transformation this year.

This project aims to address road safety concerns for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists by providing an improved streetscape and village atmosphere within a low-speed environment.

As shown in the plans below, these changes will include:

  • landscaped and irrigated centre median traffic islands to help slow motorists;
  • improved pedestrian connectivity, including footpath widening for better pedestrian safety;
  • an external timber deck pedestrian pathway at the Red Beret Hotel corner;
  • improved street lighting and two new street lights either side of Margaret Street at the Redlynch Intake Road intersection;
  • an additional zebra crossing on Kamerunga Road, with connecting pathway and bus stop links;
  • relocation and upgrade of the bus stop on Kamerunga Road;
  • irrigated landscaped gardens, stone faced feature walls with lighting and rendered retaining walls;
  • road pavement, line marking and signage improvements, including solar speed check signs;
  • village threshold treatments (stamped asphalt) on the approaches;
  • additional stormwater drainage pits and replacement and/or relocation of underground services (water, electricity and telephone);
  • new public furniture, interpretative signage and heritage style fencing; and
  • formalised car parking in Margaret Street.

A 30km/h speed limit will be in place once the above works are complete. Public art opportunities are also being explored.

Due to the works being undertaken under traffic and significant Ergon, Telstra, stormwater and water infrastructure needing to be relocated or lowered, the works will be staged..

This will ensure pedestrian and vehicular access to the village zone can be maintained throughout construction.

Construction works are programmed to start on Monday 19 August 2019 and are estimated to be complete by February 2020, weather permitting.

Thank you for your patience during construction. For further information, please contact Council by emailing feedback@cairns.qld.gov.au or by calling (07) 4044 3303.
