Council is looking for a new name for Waste Street, near the Materials Recovery Facility, Portsmith.

In line with its Waste Reduction and Recycling Strategy Council is looking for a name that reflects and promotes messages of recycling and re-use for the entry way to the Materials Recovery Facility.

The Portsmith MRF processes more than 15,000 Tonnes of Recycling each year and is also the hub for regional efforts towards waste reduction, landfill avoidance and recovery efforts.

The Cairns community have been given the opportunity to have their say on what the new street should be named by voting via an online poll.

The results of the poll will be shared via media in the coming months and will be officially unveiled at an opening ceremony during National Recycling Week November, 2019.

The proposed names are:

  • Recycling Street
  • Recovery Way
  • Rediscovery Street
