Trish Richards, a Library Assistant/Customer Service Officer at Gordonvale Library, has been announced as Queensland winner in the 2013 Australian's Favourite Librarian competition.
The annual competition, run by the Australian Library Information Association (ALIA), invited library users to nominate their favourite staff members. An online public vote was then taken to determine the top contenders.
Trish was described by her nominators as patient, knowledgeable and fun. Trish loves working in the public libraries in Cairns because the customers value and support their library service. She loves helping children and adults find the perfect book.
Trish said about winning the 2013 title for Queensland, 'It was an honour just to be nominated and all the lovely heartfelt comments and enthusiasm for my nomination was fantastic. To win Queensland's Favourite Library Assistant and achieve recognition for Cairns Libraries commitment to Customer Service was amazing and a huge thank you to all the supportive customers and colleagues who voted for me.'
Mayor Bob Manning and Council CEO Peter Tabulo have joined in the chorus of congratulations.
"It's people like Trish who give that little bit extra to really contribute to the community. Her award is very much deserved," Cr Manning said.
Mr Tabulo added, "This award is representative of the quality of service that exists in all Cairns Libraries branches. I congratulate Trish on this fantastic achievement and extend that sentiment to all libraries staff."
