Sustainability Grants

Council provides a range of grants for school excursions and community groups to further sustainability in the Cairns region. To ensure your application is eligible and assessed, please discuss your project ideas with the Sustainability team before making an application by emailing us at: sustainability@cairns.qld.gov.au.

Community Sustainability Grant

Not-for-profit groups can apply for up to $5,000 for projects that deliver renewable energy, waste reduction, low carbon travel, sustainable food production, biodiversity improvements or community education.

Applications are open each year between 1 July and 31 July.  For more information, refer to the Community Sustainability Grant guidelines and application form. ( PDF, 0.83 MB )

Nature-based Learning Grant

Council’s Nature-based Learning Grant provides up to $2,000 for school excursions that connect children with nature in a way that results in a greater awareness and appreciation of sustainable living and the natural world.
