Lost pets

One of the main benefits of registering your dog with Council and ensuring it wears its registration tag, is that we can quickly and easily identify your pet, contact you to advise you your pet has been found and reunite you with your cat or dog.

To report a lost animal, contact Council on 4044 3044.

If your animal has been taken to the pound, and we can identify you as the owner (registration tag or name on collar tag), we will contact you to let you know we have your pet and how to collect it.

Looking for a lost pet

You can look for your lost pet online or in person at the pound at 145-161 McCoombe Street, Bungalow.

The pound is open to the public:

  • Weekdays, 4.30pm-5.30pm
  • Weekends and public holiday, 2pm-2.30pm
  • The pound is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.

Picking up a lost pet

To pick up an animal from Council's pound you need:

  • Photo identification
  • Proof of registration
  • Payment or receipt of payment of fees.

Full fees are payable on collection of your animal. This include a $100 impound fee, plus sustenance fees calculated at $15/day and registration fee if your animal is unregistered.

Payment options

You can pay your fees in person at the pound or one of Council's Customer Service Centres in cash, by  EFTPOS, Visa or MasterCard*.

If paying at one of Council's Customer Service Centres, you will need to provide your receipt when collecting your animal.

*Please note there is a 1% surcharge when using a credit card.


It is not possible to adopt a pet directly from Council's pound. However, Council re-homes animals from the pound through partnerships with various shelters and re-homing groups.
