Pound hours over Christmas
The pound will be open at these times over the Christmas break if you need to collect a lost pet:
24 December - 12.30pm to 1.15pm
25 December (Christmas Day) - closed
26 December (Boxing Day) - 2pm to 2.30pm
27 December - 2pm to 2.30pm
28 December (Boxing Day Public Holiday) - 2pm to 2.30pm (Public Holiday for Boxing)
29, 30 and 31 December - 3.30pm to 4.30pm
1 January (New Years Day) - 2pm to 2.30pm
Wandering pets are routinely picked up by Council officers. If your pet is registered, microchipped or wearing a name tag with a contact phone number, we will contact you to arrange to drop your pet home.
If we can't identify the owner or we can't get in touch with you, we'll take your pet to Council's pound to keep them safe.
The animals below are currently at the pound. If you believe one of these animals is your pet, please contact Council immediately on 1300 69 22 47.
If your pet's not listed below
Many members of the public will take care of a pet they find wandering while looking for the owner. If your pet isn't listed below you can try:
- Lost and found pet pages on Facebook
- Ringing nearby vets
- Contacting shelters (RSPCA, YAPS)
Please note, Council does not adopt pets from our pound. If you are looking for a new furry family member get in touch with one of the rehoming organisations that work in our region.

Collecting your lost pet
Council's pound is at 145-161 McCoombe Street, Bungalow.
When collecting your pet you will need to:
- Provide proof of your identity (eg drivers licence)
- Pay all pound fees. Pound fees are calculated on a daily basis
- Provide proof of your animal's registration. If proof of registration is not provided, you will need to pay registration fees as well as impoundment fees.
The pound is open:
- Weekdays 4.30pm-5.30pm.
- Weekends and public holidays 2pm-2.30pm
- Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday
Payment options
You can pay your fees in person at the pound or at one of Council's Customer Service Centres in cash, by EFTPOS, Visa or MasterCard. If paying at one of Council's Customer Service Centres, you will need to provide your receipt when collecting your animal.
