Cat registration

Cat owners are required to register and microchip their pet from the age of 12 weeks, under Council's local laws.

Registration is free and for the life of the cat so, unlike dog registration, there is no requirement to renew registration each year.

Council does not issue registration tags for cats, but it's your responsibility to make sure your cat is contained on your property at all times - even at night.

There is a $252 fine for failing to register your cat.

Registering and microchipping your cat makes it easier for Council to reunite you with your pet if he gets lost.

Number of cats

Cat owners can have two cats on their property, irrespective of the size of the property.

You can apply to have more cats by completing an application to keep excess cats. ( PDF, 0.24 MB )

You may not keep cats if you live within a conservation planning area.
