You can also sign up for Council's Cairns Alert service to receive critical information via SMS.
Cairns Alert is an opt-in service to receive critical information from the Cairns Disaster Group (Cairns Local Disaster Management Group) to your device via SMS. Messages will start with words 'Cairns Disaster Group'.
Emergency Alert sends messages to mobile phones and landlines within an affected geographical area.
You do not need to be on a mobile phone use plan to receive the messages, nor do you have to register to receive the messages. The mobile warning message will come from a number which is a series of the digit 4. The word "emergency" will be obvious and information and/or instructions will be provided.

All local TV stations carry emergency updates in their regular bulletins.
If a life-threatening emergency develops the 'whoop whoop' sound of the Standard Emergency Warning Signal (SEWS) is activated and bulletins will replace or interrupt regular programming.
