As an Event City for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Cairns will have an important part to play in making these Games a success. The Games are about the amazing sporting action that will take place at the Convention Centre, however we will also be showcasing the amazing culture and the natural beauty of the region in which we live.

The eyes of the Commonwealth will be on Cairns from March 15-17 next year, as the Queen's Baton journeys towards its final destination, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018.

Across Australia approximately 3,800 batonbearers are needed to share the dream of the ‘friendly Games’ as part of the QBR. Batonbearers for the Queen's Baton Relay will be announced in November 2017.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to enjoy the Commonwealth Games activities in Cairns in 2018.

Celebrations commence with the Queens Baton Relay, as the Relay visits Cairns on 16 and 17 March. Volunteers are needed to work alongside organisers, ensuring a fun and safe passage of the iconic Baton, as it passes through the Cairns region on its way to the opening ceremony in the Gold Coast.

Cairns will host the preliminary rounds of the Basketball from 4 – 15 April with fans expected to attend the event from afar.  Being part of the City Meet and Greeting team will provide volunteers with the opportunity to meet new people from around the world and assist visitors with information and advice on our region.

Entertainment won’t just be confined to the sporting arena during GC2018. The Festival 2018 arts and cultural program will be a bold, aspirational 12-day program throughout Cairns that will feature extraordinary and memorable artistic events that celebrate the spirit of the Commonwealth and showcase Cairns’  lifestyle, culture and creativity.  Volunteering at Festival 2018 gives volunteers a front-row seat to this exciting program.
