Public litter

Council services and maintains more than 1,000 public litter bins of varying types.

Public litter bins fill the gap between domestic and commercial waste collection. They are placed in strategic locations to provide waste disposal and encourage people not to litter.

A small fleet of garbage compactor trucks operate 365 days per year emptying the bins across the region on a regular cycle (servicing ranges from 1-4 days). The quantity of waste is constantly being monitored and the frequency of collection is adjusted accordingly. In high profile areas such as the CBD and Esplanade, bins are checked and emptied daily by maintenance crews dedicated to those areas.
