Where to park in the city

Council provides more than 6400 parking places in Cairns, including 4700 in the CBD, through a mix of on-street parking and off-street carparks.

Parking hours, especially on-street parking, are updated regularly as the city grows, to ensure a regular turn over of vehicles to balance the needs of visitors, shoppers, businesses and employees.

Regulated parking hours in the Cairns CBD are between 8.30am and 6pm, Monday to Sunday. In other areas, parking hours are generally between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday, and 8.30am to 11.30am on Saturday (parking free on Sunday).

However, some areas, such as the Southern Esplanade Car Park, have extended hours so please check signs.

Parking is free for motorcycles parked in marked motorcycle bays and no time frames apply. Motorcycles parked in a standard car bay, or in off street car parks (ie. Lake St) must adhere to signed regulations including proof of payment where required.

Council generally charges $1.40 per hour for its on-street and off-street parking.

Parking is free on public holidays.
