Where to park in the city

Council provides more than 6400 parking places in Cairns, including 1400 in the CBD, through a mix of on-street parking and off-street carparks.

Parking, especially on-street parking, is updated regularly as the city grows, and ensure a regular turn over of vehicles to balance the needs of visitors, shoppers, businesses and employees.

Regulated parking hours are generally between 8.30am and 5pm weekdays and 8.30am and 11.30am Saturday. However, some areas, such as the Southern Esplanade Car Park, have extended hours so please check signs.

Council generally charges $1.20 per hour for its on-street and off-street parking.

On-street parking

Cairns has a mix of paid and free on-street parking. Remember it is an offence to "feed" a meter or ticket machine or move your vehicle to a near-by bay.

Off-street carparks

Council's off-street carparks provide short-term and all-day parking at varying rates. There is also a large number of private off-street carparks that motorists can use

Accessible parking

We recognise all Queensland, interstate and international accessible parking permits. Most accessible permit holders can also use regular parking bays for an unlimited time free of charge,
