 USM Events are looking for volunteer motorcycle riders to carry technical officials, media, medical and other stakeholders across the stunning Far North Queensland course between Cairns and Port Douglas. The Coral Coast Riders Club has been engaged to coordinate this recruitment drive.

Motorcycle riders will be required to carry pillion rider passengers to assist with:

  • Monitoring athletes during the race
  • Capture media footage of the athletes on course
  • To transport other stakeholders associated (parties) across the course

Basic meals will be provided, fuel will be covered and a further donation of $150 for every rider will be made to the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation in your name.

Celebrate the 50th Harvest Festival! 

The Babinda Harvest Festival celebrates the start of the sugarcane harvest, as well as celebrating the harvesting of other tropical produce from our region – bananas, pawpaws, tropical flowers and vanilla to name a few.

Harvest Cabaret (Friday 7 June) - the princesses are formally introduced at the basket cabaret and dance. 

Harvest Festival Week (1 – 10 June) – various community events (trivia night), and Munro Street Traders dress up their windows and staff according to the festival theme. 

Street Parade and Harvest Festival (9 June) – Grand Parade with themed floats from businesses, schools and clubs. 

Then it's off to the Showgrounds for an afternoon and evening of free entertainment, amusements and rides, the crowning of the Harvest Queens, fireworks display, displays from Babinda schools, local produce, and historical agricultural machinery, pony rides, lolly drop, and a live band and bar from 8 till midnight. Also, uniquely Babinda: Sugar Bowl competition, Gumboot Toss and Umbrella Toss.

The 2013 Cairns Airport Adventure Festival features 10 jam-packed days of events for people of all ages and abilities.

Attracting thousands of participants and spectators from Australia and across the world, this international sporting festival incorporates:

The “Redlynch Rocks” event is not a competition to see “who is the best”, but rather an opportunity for young musicians to perform their talent in front of an audience. It will be held on Friday 8th March 2013 from 5:30pm until 9:30pm at Redlynch State College, Redlynch.

Free community bike ride for all ages and abilities. 

This 11km ride follows Blackfellows Creek path, has some short hills and minimal road crossings. The ride will be split into two groups, moderate and slow to suit all fitness levels. 

There will also be a shorter ride designed for younger children and un-confident riders. 

Registrations by 8.30am, ride briefing at 8.45am with ride leaving at  9am.

The Art, Craft and Rural Monster Market is being held at the Cairns Showgrounds. Come and browse through 130 stalls offering unique, local, and hand-made craft ideas for gifts or for yourself.

There will also be a cent sale, and food and drinks will be available. Bring the family and friends for a great day of fun and shopping, all at the Fred Moule Pavilion. 

Proceeds from gold coin entry and stall fees are for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) who celebrate their 85th Birthday this year. Please note there are no EFTPOS facilities available.

Part of the 150th South Sea Islander Commemoration Celebrations, The Friends of the Botanic Gardens invite you to "A South Pacific Soiree", a series of workshops by the Vanuatu Water Women and Men's String Band, held as part of the 150th South Sea Islander Commemoration Celebrations.

The workshops cover weaving, cooking, percussion and storytelling.

Admission is $10 for guests and $5 for FoBG. Includes a light meal.

The official kick-off of two months of celebrations recognising the contribution of the South Sea Islander community to the life and culture of the Cairns region.

The event will be headlined by the Vanuatu Water Women and the Men's String Band, a cultural group from the remote northern tropical islands of Vanuatu, who will perform in the Lagoon.

A spectacular "regularity" rally series for classic cars in Far North Queensland. The 2-day rally is conducted on public roads, the participants have to complete 600 km animated drive and 15 coordination challenges. 

This year 46 cars have already enlisted to take off from the Cairns Pier car park on the morning of 22 June and will drive through the region's prettiest roads stopping at the classiest venues. 

The organisers are holding a raffle for Variety at the event's Awards Gala Dinner on the night of 23 June, hoping to raise funds for charity.
