Munro Martin Parklands

More than a year in the making, the newly redeveloped Munro Martin Parklands (MMP) opened to the public on Sunday 14 August 2016.

Munro Martin Parklands (MMP) is Cairns' newest community gathering place complete with an outdoor performance space. The Parklands boast tropical plantings, vine covered pergolas and arbours and an open-air plaza to encourage passive, casual use of the facility.

The venue is also equipped to host a wide range of shows and since its opening in August 2016 performances have ranged from Queensland Opera’s Barber of Seville, to the new circus of Circa, Grammy Award winning Soweto Gospel Choir and the contemporary music of Passenger.

Survey results from the first three events have shown very high community satisfaction with 99% happy with the new venue and 94% satisfied with their overall experience on the night.

Munro Martin Parklands is open to the public from 6am to 8.30pm, seven days a week except on ticketed event days.

When attending events at the Parklands, please be sure to dress appropriate to the weather and be considerate when using umbrellas as they can hinder the view of other patrons.

Circa's Troppo 2 September 2017

  • 5pm gates open
  • 7pm show starts

As part of the Cairns Festival program the beautiful Munro Martin Parklands will host an evening of world class entertainment that will appeal to the entire family.

On a deserted island far, far away a rag tag circus troupe is washed up on a beach. Dazed and unfamiliar with their colourful new world they venture into the island. Will they make it off or will the tropical, warm climate make them all go a little... ‘troppo’?

In this 'Alice in Wonderland meets 'The Tempest’ action-packed new show, Circa invite you into their daring new acrobatic world... Colourful and energetic, funny yet insightful, Troppo is full of wonder, comic misadventures and circus, mixed together like a good cocktail – with a dash of panache and the desire to please. An explosively fun beach party the whole family will enjoy.

Catch performances by Cairns’ own future circus stars from Cycas Circus from 5pm when they perform their new production 'Cirque de Couleurs' as well as a range of roving performances and surprises.

The history of The Glenn Miller Orchestra dates back to the 1940s where the legend remains that in 1944, Glenn Miller took his band to Great Britain and performed for the troops and played on radio broadcasts during WWII. On December 15th that same year, Miller boarded a transport plane to Paris, and was never seen again... Today, the Glenn Miller Orchestra band lives on, and in 2003 Miller posthumously received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
