Cairns is home to a large number of Spectacled Flying-foxes and based on expert advice, Council has adopted a multi-faceted strategy to managing flying-foxes in urban areas, particularly in the Cairns city centre.

As part of the strategy, Council has a range of community education resources providing scientific facts about flying-fox populations, behaviours, and diseases, and addressing common misconceptions about flying-foxes.

Visit the Council's website for more information about the role of flying-foxes in the environment, how they choose to interact with people and Council’s management strategy.
