History

This library was established in 1988 as the Mulgrave Shire Council Bicentennial Library. It was the library headquarters of the former Mulgrave Shire Council. Since then it has served the expanding population of the Northern beaches area. In 2006 Cairns Libraries' Support Service unit was relocated to the Library. Support Services unit provides technical support for all areas of Cairns Libraries - from acquisition of new resources through to interlibrary loan requests. The Unit provides a seamless operation which allows our libraries to maintain a high quality, efficient service to the community.

The library was fully renovated and upgraded in 2007/2008 featuring a new circulation desk, Council Customer Service Office, additional technology and more spacious and inviting spaces. Bright new signage and improved shelf design provided greater access to the library and its facilities. A Cairns Regional Council Customer Service Office is located within the library area, allowing residents the opportunity to conduct Council business at the same time as their library visit. The refurbished library was officially launched on 18 January 2008.

The library is the third busiest of our branches.
