The Regional Resources Collection

This collection is housed at the City Library and contains titles which relate to Cairns and the Far North Queensland area. The collection includes information on the history, culture, environment and development of the region.

Please note this is a reference collection and items may not be borrowed. This ensures the preservation and availability of the collection for the community.

The collection includes:

  • Books relating to the history, culture, geography and development of the region as well as locally authored and published material
  • Microfilm of local newspapers including The Cairns Post (1884-1893, 1897 to present). Please note: that there is a 3-6 month delay on the most current Cairns Post newspapers.
  • Trove's Historic Australian Newspapers allow you to view and search the Cairns Post (Qld. : 1884 – 1893, 1909 - 1954) and other Australian newspapers online.
  • Material published by local organisations, including the Cairns Historical Society Bulletin
  • Street directories
  • Profiles, reports and studies produced by local government
  • CD-ROMs
  • Maps (including topographical, nautical, cadastral, and aerial)
