Mayor, Councillors & Divisions

Cairns Regional Council was formed on 15 March 2008, as a result of the State Government’s merger of Cairns City and Douglas Shire Councils.

Cr Val Schier made history by becoming the first female Mayor of the Cairns Regional Council, at a swearing-in ceremony on 3 April 2008.

Cr Schier and the ten divisional Councillors were sworn in by Cairns Regional Council Acting CEO Noel Briggs during a ceremony attended by more than 200 people, including the State Minister for Main Roads and Local Government, and Member for Mulgrave, the Hon. Warren Pitt MP.
