Mt Whitfield Conservation Park
Just behind the gardens is the Mt Whitfield Conservation Park. The park comprises over 300 hectares of forested mountain range. Reaching an elevation of 365 metres above sea level, the park offers many opportunities for nature-based recreation and educational activates along its two major walking tracks.
The vegetation is rainforest with patches of eucalyptus and grasslands. There is only limited recruitment of plants and animals and this makes the park a valuable and delicate resource.
Red/Blue Arrow circuits
Red Arrow Circuit is 1.3km long and takes approx one hour return. It's forested, has some steep sections with two open viewing areas overlooking the city and north towards the airport.
Blue Arrow Circuit is 5.4km long and takes four to five hours return. It's a rugged bush track with steep climbs and should only be attempted by fit persons. Maps and further information are available from the information office in the Botanic Gardens.
