The north and south banks of the Daintree River are linked by the Daintree Ferry.
The ferry is the only cable ferry operating within tropical Australia. It operates daily between 6am and midnight.
On Christmas Day, 25 December 2011, the ferry will operate 7.30am - 10.30am and 2.30pm - 5.30pm.
Normal operating hours apply on all other days during the Christmas/New Year period.
Daintree ferry concessional travel policy
Council provides concessional travel on the Daintree River ferry to all persons who fulfil the eligibility criteria, subject to the terms and conditions for such concessional travel being abided.
Smart Card offer for locals: 15 November 2011 - 15 January 2012
Residents of the Cairns region can take advantage of free travel across the Daintree River, with the help of a locals’ Smart Card travel pass.
Council is offering a two-month free ferry trial period from 15 November 2011 to 15 January 2012. During that time, Smart Card holders can use the Daintree River ferry as often as they like at no charge.
To obtain a locals’ Smart Card, visit Cairns Regional Council's customer service centres at 119-145 Spence Street, Cairns or 64-66 Front Street, Mossman and ask for a Smart Card travel form. You will need to provide photo identification that proves residency within the Cairns Regional Council area.
