| Killaloe Refuse Station is located 6kms North of the Port Douglas turnoff on the Captain Cook Highway. The Landfill & Transfer Station has been transformed in the last 2 years to accomodate Douglas Shire's committment to reducing landfill and taking part in the beneficial reuse of organic wastes (including sewage sludge) process (for more information on this please click on the link below). Killaloe is open every day of the year (except Christamas Day ) during the following times:
- Monday-Saturday 8am to 6pm - Sunday 9am to 6pm (Last vehicle entry at 5:30pm)
The following waste is accepted at Killaloe:
- Mixed recyclables - Steel and other metals - Whitegoods - Landfill/Building & Demolition Waste(TV's, furniture, broken glass etc.) - Processible (Food scraps, cardboard & paper etc.) - Garden cuttings and vegetation - Car bodies - Tyres - Waste engine oil & oil filters - Batteries - Asbestos (by appointment)
Cleaned chemical drums are accepted on advertised Drum Muster days. All containers brought in for collection must adhere to the Drum Muster requirements. For more information on this please contact Environmental Health Services on (07) 4099 9465 or click on the Drum Muster link below.
Mulch is available from Killaloe on Tuesday and Thursday ONLY between 9am - 4pm. Mulch is $12.00 per cubic metre and must be paid for at the weighbridge.
