Ideas to ease traffic congestion

Council will write to the State Government requesting that the 40km/h school speed zone be removed from Sheridan Street outside the Mother of Good Counsel College to improve traffic flow during peak times.

Councillors resolved that other safety measures in place, including a signalised pedestrian crossing and presence of a crossing supervisor ensured the safety of pedestrians would not be compromised by a change to the speed zone.

Council is requesting that the standard 60km/h limit be retained along the heavily used section of road to reduce traffic congestion.

In a separate resolution, Councillors voted to investigate the closure of Whitfield Street, Aeroglen, at the Captain Cook Highway as a possible means to further ease congestion issues north of the city.
