For the first time ever in regional Australia, Cairns will host the nation’s largest event for entrepreneurs on 16 September, The Entrepreneurs’ Unconvention.
The popular event is run by leading educator of business owners, The Entourage, and has never before been held outside of a capital city.
Participants will hear business success stories from an impressive line-up of high profile speakers, headlined by Michelle Bridges, Australia's most influential personal trainer.
The prominent self-branded entrepreneur, television personality and accomplished author has been featured on SmartCompany’s Top 30 Female Entrepreneurs list two years running.
Acting Mayor and Planning and Environment Committee Chair Terry James said delivering free business-focussed events was a key part of Council’s economic development strategy.
“This type of event would generally cost thousands of dollars in travel and registration fees to take part in,” he said. “That’s the kind of money aspiring entrepreneurs and new businesses just don’t have.”
“Places are limited and the tickets are expected to be snapped up quickly, so I would encourage Cairns locals to get in quickly to secure their place.
“We expect about 700 participants on the day, and The Entourage expect that many will travel from around Australia for a chance to get a seat at this in-demand event,” he said.
With a strong focus on start-ups and entrepreneurs, the event will feature inspirational talks from ordinary people who have achieved extraordinary success.
Founder & CEO of The Entourage, Jack Delosa said "Unconvention brings together Australia's best entrepreneurs all on one stage. Michelle Bridges is an incredible person, and a perfect role model for entrepreneurs at any stage."
A previous speaker at The Entrepreneurs’ Unconvention events, Michelle will share her personal story of cementing herself as an entrepreneur and overcoming roadblocks to build her hugely successful 12 Week Body Transformation business.
Australia’s leading demographer, Bernard Salt, recently reported that Cairns was leading the rise of the ‘lifestylepreneur’ – autonomous micro-business owners who use technology to operate from a lifestyle location and leave the stresses of corporate life behind.
“Bernard noted that Cairns’ levels of activity in the micro-and small-business sectors are bucking the state’s regional trends, and that we have the potential to become a national entrepreneurial hotspot,” Cr James said.
“Entrepreneurs are choosing our world-class lifestyle location without sacrificing the needs of their business.
“Council is proud to help bring The Unconvention to Cairns, and I am confident it will put our region firmly on the map as one of Australia’s most desirable lifestyle-oriented regional centres,” he said.
The remaining speaker line-up and venue details will be announced within the next two weeks.
The Cairns Unconvention event will be held in Cairns on Saturday 16 September. The one-day event is free and open to all. Pre-registrations are now open at www.the-entourage.edu.au/unconvention-2017-cairns
