CSA - tree trimming at Cairns Library

Published: 10 Jul 2017

Cairns Regional Council advises trimming and maintenance of trees at the Cairns City Library site will be undertaken from Tuesday 11 July, 2017.

The work will involve removal of dead and low-hanging limbs to promote healthy growth of the trees and improve public safety.

A qualified ecologist and wildlife carer will be on site throughout the works.

To minimise impact on the flying fox colony, one tree will be pruned per day with a day of rest in between pruning each tree. This will also assist in preventing the flying-foxes from resting in other areas of the CBD.

Council has received approval from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection to undertake the works.

Flying fox activity at the site is currently minimal.

Programmed days of work:

Tuesday 11 July 2017

Thursday 13 July 2017

Monday 17 July 2017

Wednesday 19 July 2017

Traffic Management:

A pedestrian detour will be in place at times during works which will require the closure of up to eight car parks.
