PLEASE NOTE: A review of the role and functions of Council's First Peoples' Advisory Committee is underway and is set for completion in 2017. This process is underway for each of Council's advisory committees following the completion of their terms in March 2016.
As part of this process, Council's Reconciliation Action Plan is being reviewed to inform the work of the future committee.
The First Peoples Advisory Committee is one of the important ways in which Council engages and consults with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
The committee is an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities from with our region to have a voice on issues, projects and initiatives relevant to them. Membership is voluntary.
The role of the First Peoples Advisory Committee is to provide comment, feedback and direction on issues that relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities. It also works to enhance opportunities for participation and collaboration between local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and Council.
Advice of the 2016 First Peoples Advisory Committee meetings will be provided following the review.
