McLean Street / Short Street upgrade

Major road upgrade works to McLean Street and Short Street in Cairns North are now complete.

Works included road rehabilitation works; footpath construction; installation of kerb and channel; the formalisation of on-street parking bays; and line-marking improvements.

The traffic lanes and road shoulders of McLean Street have been widened, on-street parking has been formalised and street lighting improvements were undertaken. The overhead power lines were converted to under-ground services and water main relocation works occurred. Improvements were made to the stormwater culvert / outlets on the western side of the street.

Road improvement works in Short Street resulted in sealing property driveway accesses, street lighting upgrades and road resurfacing.

The introduction of footpaths and landscaping elements along McLean St completed these improvement works.

These works were undertaken in conjunction with the Collins Avenue Bridge replacement works in order to minimise the disruptions to local residents and motorists.

This project received funding from the Australian Government’s ‘Roads to Recovery’ Fund.
