Lake Street voted best design and construction project

The multi-million dollar transformation of Lake Street in the Cairns City Centre has earned acclaim from the Far North Queensland engineering industry.

At the 2014 Engineers Australia Far North Queensland Engineering Excellence Awards, the City Centre Alive project was named Design and Construction Project of the Year.

AECOM, which worked hand-in-hand with Council on the project design, accepted the award on Council's behalf.

The project has exceeded the expectations of Council and the community, transforming the CBD through improved public transport, better pedestrian movement and a vibrant tropical amenity that has injected new business enthusiasm and brought people back into the city heart.

The partnership between Council and AECOM was a key factor in the quality of the end result. The engineering and project management expertise on both sides was of a particularly high standard, allowing the project to be delivered in a cost-effective and timely manner, resulting in a superior end product and minimum construction time.
