Water supply specialist to review Division 10 water

20 May 2009

Leading water supply specialist Hunter Water Australia has been appointed to undertake an independent review of the water supplies in Douglas.

In addition, drinking water quality risk management specialist Water Futures Pty will assess drinking water quality results.

Cairns Regional Council has responded to a formal request by Jason O’Brien MP for Council to commission an independent audit of the former Douglas Shire water supply.

Chair of the Water and Waste Committee Cr Paul Gregory said the review will examine the state of the system at the time of the merger and the way the supply has been handled since.

“Water Futures were involved in formulating the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and are experts in the field of drinking water risk management.”

Hunter Water provides consultancy services to more than 50 water suppliers in Australia and overseas.

They also operate 22 water and wastewater treatment plants in the Hunter Valley, NSW.
