Division 6

Councillor Linda Cooper

Linda Cooper is the Councillor for Division 6, an area that encompasses Redlynch, Brinsmead and parts of Whitfield. She is also the Chair of Council's Finance and Administration Committee. This is Linda's first term as a Councillor after previously working in media for nearly nine years.

In the late 90s Linda had her own breakfast radio show on HOTFM and in 2002 bought CityLife Magazine with her husband Stewart. Following on from the success of the Cairns publication, Linda and Stewart launched sister publications in Townsville and Mackay/ Whitsundays. The success of the magazines was noticed by media giant APN News and Media who eventually acquired all three publications.

Linda lives in Brinsmead with her husband Stewart and their two sons Nick (14) and Fraser (11). They are very proud residents of the area and are parochial about the Far North Queensland lifestyle.

They have lived in Cairns for 12 years and in that time have become involved in many organisations, most prominently the Leukaemia Foundation. Linda was the President for several years and followed in the footsteps of Stewart who also fulfilled the position. The Cooper family have volunteered for the Leukaemia Foundation for more than 10 years.

Linda and her family have many varied interests but the majority of them centre around sport (basketball, athletics, rugby league and waterskiing). They love travelling, but most importantly, love exploring the many beautiful spots this region has to offer.
