Division 3
Councillor Robert Pyne
Born in Gordonvale and raised in Edmonton, I am a local through and through. I grew up with Local Government having a father who served many years as Mayor of the Mulgrave Shire and later as Mayor of the newly amalgamated Cairns City. After leaving school I worked in various professions, including the National Australia Bank and The Public Trustee, where I worked until breaking my neck in 1991. Since then I have worked with a number of not-for-profit organisations and completed a BA in History and Politics and a Law Degree, before gaining employment at JCU in 2002.
In March 2008 I was elected to represent Division 3 on Cairns Regional Council. It is my belief that Cairns must plan for growth by supporting socially and ecologically sustainable development. This must include retaining the City's natural beauty by protecting our hill-slopes, Trinity Inlet and the reef.
So if you live in Division 3 and see someone cruising down your street in a wheelchair, with a notebook in his pocket - do not hesitate to say hi and let me know if there are any issues Council needs to address in your area.
