International Day of Peace Celebrations
Peace Week 2012
Its Peace Week Planning time and Council are pleased to invite your organisations and community groups to participate in the planning for this exciting week. This years peace week is planned between 16 - 22 September, with the weekend 21st and 22nd as the official Peace Day celebrations.
Council are currently in the process of negotiating Cairns participation in "PEACE DAY : LIVE" A global concert to launch a call for world unity and celebrate the united nations "International Day of Peace". The organisers were impressed by Peace Week celebrations as an ideal model for a live broadcast from Australia. Planning is at the initial stage of negotiations, however Cairns is the first Australian city to be accepted as part of this inaugural event.
Welcome to Cairns for International Students will be another exciting aspect of this year's Peace Week celebrations.
In the 'Related Documents' section of this page (upper right hand side) you will find the expression of interest form to submit your proposed event for this year's celebrations. Council welcome proposals from all departments, community groups and agencies. This is a community celebration and we take pride in our community contributions.
Council will shortly call for an organising committee to be formed which will include organisers of the various events.
