Multicultural Advisory Group

This reference group is made up of representatives and leaders of multicultural communities from the region. Members are invited to attend a monthly meeting - the first Tuesday of the month.  

The aim of this group is to provide guidance and support towards developing a partnership with Cairns Regional Council to understand and respond to issues affecting people from different cultural and language backgrounds, who are living in the Cairns Local Government region.

The group works in partnership with Cairns Regional Council and the community to:

  • Increase the understanding of issues affecting people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
  • Provide guidance and support in responding to those issues.
  • Increase the appreciation of our community’s cultural diversity and recognise the value of the contributions that all communities can make.  
  • Encourage and assist people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds to use Cairns Regional Council services.
  • Assist Council staff who provide those services, to become more accessible and to communicate more clearly with those customers.
  • Promote fairness, harmony and participation through the practice of positive Community Relations that will benefit all people.

Who can join?

This is a community reference group.  Membership is open to members of public; any community member is welcome to attend the meetings

How to Join

To become an appointed member you need to complete a membership form.

  • Complete the membership form in the related documents area.
  • Return Application form to the address mentioned in the form.
  • Application will be discussed by the committee.
  • You will be approached by the LAMP officer to inform you of the committee decision.
