Cairns Regional Council's Youth Development Officer provides advocacy for young people in local government processes, assists in the strategic planning of youth services in Cairns and develops partnerships between government and non government organisations to address the needs of young people

Mayor's youth achievement fund

The Cairns Regional Council Mayor’s Youth Achievement Fund, established in 1993, is totally sponsored by the local community and businesses who make donations towards the fund and who support our major fundraising events each year. Scholarships are aimed at students whose final two years of high school are at risk due to genuine financial hardship. The fund offers scholarship awards to successful students in the expectation that our investment in them will be returned to either our local community or in a larger global context.
