Museum resource centre
The Museum Development Officer provides professional advice and training to museums, art galleries and keeping places in the Cairns Regional Council area as well as other local governments in Far North Queensland. The program aims to assist local museums and non-commercial art galleries to achieve professional standards of operation.
The program covers a wide range of areas of museum operations, such as:
- collection management
- preventive conservation
- organisation of exhibitions
- promotion
- educational programs
- identifying suitable sources of funding
- assistance with writing grant applications
Services provided
Training is offered through a series of workshops (organised usually during weekends), as well as through a 'hands-on' training, advice and assistance offered to individual museums.
