Community Sustainability Grant

Bring your project to life with a Community Sustainability Grant from Cairns Regional Council.

Not for profit groups operating in the Cairns local government area, can apply for up to $5,000 to deliver projects with a range of sustainability outcomes- from resource efficiency, sustainable travel and food production to biodiversity improvements or community education.

Applications for 2017/18 are open between 1 June and 31 July.  For more information, refer to the Community Sustainability Grant guidelines and application form. ( PDF, 0.26 MB )

It is strongly recommended to discuss project ideas with the Sustainability Team before making an application. Initial contact is best made by emailing sustainability@cairns.qld.gov.au.

Nature-based Learning Grant

Council’s Nature-Based Learning Grant provides up to $2,000 for school excursions that connect children with nature in a way that results in a greater awareness and appreciation of sustainable living and the natural world.

In 2016/17, 13 schools (1389 students) received grant funding for a range of excursions including trips to the reef and rainforest. See downloads section for more detail.
