Sustainability Grants

Council provides a range of grants to further sustainability in the Cairns region. In all cases, it is strongly recommended to discuss project ideas before making an application at: sustainability@cairns.qld.gov.au.

Community Sustainability Grant

Not for profit groups can apply for up to $5,000 for projects that deliver renewable energy, waste reduction, low carbon travel, sustainable food production, biodiversity improvements or community education.

Applications for 2018 are invited between 1 June and 31 July.  For more information, refer to the Community Sustainability Grant guidelines and application form. ( DOCX, 0.21 MB )

Nature-based Learning Grant

Council’s Nature-based Learning Grant provides up to $2,000 for school excursions that connect children with nature in a way that results in a greater awareness and appreciation of sustainable living and the natural world.

In 2016/17, 13 schools (1,389 students) received grant funding for a range of excursions including trips to the reef and rainforest. See downloads section for more detail.

ECOarts Grant

The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) ECOarts grant provides between $500 and $1,500 towards projects that have a environmentally-based arts and cultural practice, highlight a sustainability challenge or celebrate our unique local biodiversity.
