Dogs are not allowed at:

- Cairns CBD
- Cairns Esplanade Lagoon swimming pool and surrounds
- Inside the stinger nets
- Sporting reserves
- Cairns Botanic Gardens Precinct including Centenary Lakes and Mount Whitfield Conservation Park
- Cattana Wetlands
- Sugarworld Gardens
- Popular swimming holes such as Crystal Cascades, The Rocks, Golden Hole and Babinda Boulders
You can view a list of all prohibited areas on Council's Register of Prohibition of Animals in Public Places ( PDF, 1.99 MB ).
The Cairns CBD is off limits to dogs.
You may own a dog while living in the CBD however your must take your dog to and from your property by car or other means that avoids walking your dog on footpaths, roads, reserves or parkland.
There is a designated dog-off leash area on the Esplanade, north of the Fun Ship Playground. The off-leash area stretches north to opposite Tobruk Pool and the hockey centre.
The Lagoon and its surrounds
The Lagoon pool is strictly out of bounds to dogs.
Because of the high number of people using this area, dogs are also not allowed on the lawn areas either side of the Lagoon, in Fogarty Park or the Southern Esplanade carpark.
Watch this video on walking your dog on the Cairns Esplanade.
Inside the stinger nets
Most Cairns beaches have dog off-leash areas at either end of the beach.
Dog must be walked on lead in all other areas.
Dogs are strictly prohibited from the stinger nets. Life Savers on duty will ask dog owners to remove their dogs if they wander into the stinger net area.
