Cairns Multicultural Month
From 1 August – 9 September 2017, Cairns will join in celebrating Queensland Multicultural Month, the state’s largest multicultural celebration.
Cairns Multicultural Month provides an opportunity to build and promote appreciation and acceptance for the diverse cultures of our region to strengthen meaningful and respectful community connections. It is a chance to come together to embrace our common values through the sharing of knowledge, tradition, food, music, sport and art.
The key themes for Cairns Multicultural Month 2017 are:
- Celebrating our region’s rich cultural diversity through providing opportunities for active participation in cultural experiences and traditions.
- Supporting community cohesion through creating, developing and promoting a sense of acceptance, belonging and connectedness.
Above all, the Cairns Multicultural Month acknowledges that while we may come from different places and cultures, we all contribute to making Cairns a wonderful place to live.
Cairns Multicultural Month will replace Cultural Diversity Week as Cairns’ annual celebration of our region’s cultural diversity.
Community groups, organisations and associations are invited to submit an expression of interest to access up to $1000 to help with events held as part of Cairns Multicultural Month 2017 (1 Aug - 9 Sept). The events, activities and programs should align with the themes of Cairns Multicultural Month listed above.
