Community safety

Council delivers a number of services and programs to enhance community safety.

Community Safety Program

This Council initiative is committed to creating a vibrant community where people can live comfortably and safely. The program promotes community safety and positive community relations, and focuses on crime prevention through environmental design, safety audits, community awareness and education, drug and alcohol related issues, community advocacy and more.

CitySafe CCTV operations

The CitySafe closed circuit television system is a network of closed circuit television cameras in the Cairns Central Business District (CBD) and other locations.

Graffiti prevention and management

Council is responsible for removing graffiti from community assets and infrastructure owned and/or managed by Council. Council also supports GraffitiSTOP – a Queensland Government initiative in the fight against graffiti.

Lifeguard services

Lifeguard services patrol our main beaches at various times throughout the year. Swimmers should stay on patrolled beaches and swim between the flags.  Qualified lifeguards also patrol the Esplanade lagoon area from 6:00am to 9:00pm year round.
