The Cairns Botanic Gardens, renowned for having one of the best exhibitions of tropical plants in Australia, is a tropical paradise where you can explore the beauty of tropical plants, relax in stunning surroundings and learn about tropical flora and horticulture.
The Gardens is divided into:
- The Flecker Gardens
- Gondwana Heritage Garden
- Watkins Munro Martin Conservatory
- Freshwater and Saltwater Lakes; and
- Zhanjiang Friendship Gardens

The Botanic Gardens precinct is at Collins Avenue, Edge Hill. Areas, such as the Freshwater and Saltwater Lakes can be easily accessed from Greenslopes Street.
If driving, there is on-street parking along Collins avenue and Greenslopes Street.
You can visit the Gardens via Sunbus with a bus stop directly outside the Gardens.
The Flecker Gardens, including the Watkins Munro Martin Conservatory are open everyday (including public holidays) from 7.30am to 5.30pm.
The remaining areas of the Garden are open to the public around the clock.
Entry to Gardens is free.
Please note the Cairns areas is subject to severe adverse weather, including cyclones. Flecker Gardens can be closed during these times to ensure public safety.
The Cairns Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre is between Flecker Gardens and the Tanks Arts Centre (link to Tanks site), at 64 Collins Avenue.
Pop in to learn more about the Gardens, view an exhibition, take a class, or purchase a memento of your visit.
The Visitor Centre, which includes public toilets, is open 8.30am to 4pm weekdays and 8.30am to 1pm weekends.
It is closed Christmas Day, and open 8:30am to 1pm on other public holidays.

The Friends of the Botanic gardens conduct free, guided tours of Flecker Gardens from 10am each weekday. Tours will recommence on Monday 27 February 2017. Tours generally take an hour. If you want to join a tour, simply meet up with your guide outside the Friends House.
Educational guided walks for schools and other educational institutes are free. Bookings are limited so book well in advance. Please use our school booking form or send us an email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Bird Watching Walk
Available every Tuesday commencing at 8.30am. Recommencing 17 January 2017. Meet at the Friends House, Flecker Garden. Duration - approximately two hours. We recommend you bring binoculars and wear sensible walking shoes.
Some paths in Flecker Garden are not suitable for wheelchairs and prams. The remainder of the gardens, including Centenary Lakes, are fully accessible.
