Tireless Cairns Cycling Club member and organiser of the annual ‘Tour de Tableland’ cycling event, Dawn Nash has received well earned praise for her contribution to North Queensland Sport.  At the annual North Queensland Sports Foundation Awards on Saturday the 1st of March, Dawn was honoured by receiving the Allan Ticehurst Memorial Award for Services to Sport.  As part of an outstanding list of nominees, Dawn stood out for her dedication to the sport of cycling as a committee member and official that has lasted over 35 years.  Dawn said in her acceptance that it was the ‘icing on the cake for just doing something that she loves’.

Special mention must also go to Council’s other nominees Mitchell Evans (Junior Nominee for the Sport of Motocross) and Jo Butland (Senior Nominee for AFL and Soccer), who unfortunately missed top honours but received special mention for their achievements in their respective sports.

The prestigious awards evening which is now in its 18th year, was a wonderful affair with a strong showing from all 32 councils.  Rugby League legend Mark ‘MG’ Geyer (pictured with junior nominee Mitchell) was special guest for the evening and entertained the crowd with stories and anecdotes from days gone by in his usual outspoken style.  Thank you must also go to the North Queensland Sports Foundation for its commitment to these awards and its dedication to furthering sport in the north.
