Responsibilities

To ensure compliance with State Legislation and Council Local Laws to provide a safer, healthier environment and lifestyle for people living in and visiting Cairns in the areas of Public Health, Building Regulation Services, Development Control, Environmental Protection, Animal Management, Regulated Parking and Cemeteries.

Licences, Approvals and Permits

These are used as tools by the Environmental Assessment Branch to minimise the impact and potential inconvenience of activities on the greater community. They also serve as a means of minimising any impact on the surrounding environmental values.

Activities for which licences/approvals/permits are required include:

• Changes of land uses
• Outdoor venues where excessive noise may occur
• Circuses
• Activities on Roads such as displaying of goods on footpaths
• Temporary home whilst construction of permanent residence takes place
• Busking on Council-controlled areas
• Camping
• Food and Health related activities
