To enhance government accountability and to promote discussion of public affairs, the Freedom of Information Act (1992) (FOI Act) provides a mechanism for persons to have access to documents in the possession or under the control of Council.
There are certain grounds for refusing access to documents held by Council contained in the Act. One of these is that the document is reasonably open to public access under another Act whether by payment of a fee or otherwise.

To make a request under FOI please print, fill in the Request for Information form and return to Cairns City Council , PO Box 359, Cairns Qld 4870 or in person to Customer Services in the Administration Building.
