Temporary Road Closure - Collins Avenue

Cairns City Council advises motorists and residents that Collins Avenue will be closed to all motorists for a period of five weeks from Monday 16 April 2007.

A component of Stage 1 of the Botanic Gardens, Tanks Art Centre, Centenary Lakes master plan, the realignment of Collins Avenue will take approximately five weeks to complete. However, work is dependent on the weather, and as such, delays may occur.

Collins Avenue will be closed from the eastern side of MacDonnell Street intersection the length of Collins Avenue to Sheridan Street. No access to through traffic will be available from Sheridan Street to the west.

Motorists and residents are advised that access to Tanks Art Centre and Red and Blue Arrow walking tracks will be maintained during the closure and can be accessed via the detour into Greenslopes Street, Mayers Street and Collins Avenue.  (See road closure map.)

Pedestrians, cyclists and motorists wishing to access the Botanic Gardens and Tanks Art Centre, should follow detours as signposted. All other motorists are asked to keep clear of the site using alternative detours. (See pedestrian detour map.)
