Cairns City Council evolved from a number of Governing Bodies of Cairns from the 1870s to 1995.
Cairns has an interesting history which includes many exciting events dating back to the first discovery in 1770. This timeline contains details of many significant events associated with a growing city including the construction of the first roads, introduction of gas street lights and the opening of significant buildings.
