The City of Cairns is the capital hub of Far North Queensland, internationally recognised as an innovative and growing regional centre.
Cairns lies between two reef and rainforest World Heritage areas with a rich and diverse history. The region is home to a vibrant culturally and linguistically diverse population, offering an exciting mix of culinary, entertainment, visual arts and shopping experiences.
Cairns prides itself as a safe and welcoming city that encourages all people to engage, enjoy and benefit from all that it offers. This includes making Cairns a City in which people with disabilities can benefit equally, encouraging them to live, work, shop, do business and spend leisure time in this beautiful part of the world.
We offer the following information, complete with detailed maps showing areas across our city that provide wheel chair access, from cinemas and arcades to banks and resorts. Please use these maps to get the most out of your City. We hope they provide you with the freedom to enjoy all that is on offer.
If you wish to be listed as an Accessible Accommodation provider, please download the Accessible Accommodation Self Appraisal tool (pdf). Complete the Appraisal Tool and return to Cairns Regional Council Access and Equity Project Officer i.chill@cairns.qld.gov.au. If your faciltiy meets the required criteria, a final appraisal will be conducted by a Cairns Regional Council staff member and your facility will then be placed on the directory.
When travelling to the Far North the National Public Toilet Map (the Toilet Map) will assist you in finding the location of public and private public toilet facilities across our region. Details of toilet facilities can also be found along major travel routes and for shorter journeys as well. Useful information is provided about each toilet such as location, opening hours, availability of baby change rooms, accessibility for people with disabilities and the details of other nearby toilets.
