Camping grounds

Camping grounds are approved and regulated under Cairns Regional Council's Local Laws.

Below you will find step-by-step guides for new businesses, existing businesses and taking over a business

New businesses and upgrades to existing businesses

  1. Check  with Town Planning if a camping ground is permitted in this area. Use the Pre-Lodgement Enquiry form ( PDF, 0.07 MB ) to provide details of your proposal.
  2. Check with Trade Waste if you require a trade waste permit. You can use this Application for Approval to discharge Trade Waste (Commercial Liquid Waste) form ( PDF, 0.17 MB ).
  3. Provide your plans to Council for approval of your camping grounds.
  4. Complete your application for approval to operate a camping ground ( PDF, 0.17 MB ).

Existing businesses

  1. Submit your application to operate a camping ground ( PDF, 0.29 MB ).
  2. Check with Trade Waste if you require a trade waste permit. You can use this Application for Approval to discharge Trade Waste (Commercial Liquid Waste) form ( PDF, 0.17 MB ).
  3. Check with Local Laws if any permits are required.

Taking over a business

  1. Before you purchase a business, we recommend that you request a sales search. This allows an Environmental Health Officer to inspect the premises, either as a desktop audit or a physical audit, to identify any issues. Complete and lodge the Land Record Search request form ( PDF, 0.06 MB ).
  2. The vendor (or their legal counsel) will also need to complete and submit the Authorisation for Release of Information form ( PDF, 0.14 MB ) to authorise Council to release this information to you.
  3. Complete and submit an application for transfer approval to operate a camping ground ( PDF, 0.29 MB ).
  4. Check with Trade Waste if you require a trade waste permit. You can use this Application for Approval to discharge Trade Waste (Commercial Liquid Waste) form ( PDF, 0.17 MB ).
  5. Check with Local Laws if any permits are required.
