What is IDAS?
The Sustainable Planning Act website nominates The Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS) website as the State mechanism for managing development and its effects in Queensland.
IDAS is a single uniform system for development approval that enables relevant state agencies to have input in the assessment process. The system provides for all social, environmental and economic matters relevant to a development application to be addressed at one time.
The IDAS process
The IDAS process involves five stages (not all applications will require all five stages). The stages of the IDAS are:
- Application
- Information and referral
- Notification
- Decision
- Compliance Stage.
Key participants in IDAS
IDAS defines the responsibilities for the respective participants in the process. Participants include:
- Applicant
- Assessment manager
- An IDAS referral agency
- Submitter.
Determining an application
In some instances a minor application may be determined by Council's delegate with input from the Divisional Councillor. In other instances Council will determine an application. For the former Douglas Shire area the Queensland Iconic Places Panel may choose to determine an application. The State Government introduced the Iconic Queensland Places Act 2008 (IQPA) which came into effect on 15 March 2008.
Deciding an application
An application may be:
- Approved
- Approved subject to conditions or
- Refused.
