Controlled burns at Mount Peter - October 2012

Council, Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service and Queensland Fire & Rescue Service propose to undertake controlled burns at the below locations:

• Mt Peter (southern section)
  During the week of 8 October 2012 (weather permitting) @ 12.00 noon
  
• Mt Peter (mid-section)
  During the week of 22 October 2012 (weather permitting) @ 3.00pm

Should conditions not be favourable at these times, the burns may be undertaken on ensuing days. Council apologises if this causes any inconvenience.

This controlled burn is part of a fire prevention and hazard reduction program for the natural areas surrounding Cairns.  This program is designed to reduce the frequency of wildfires, protect adjacent urban areas and provide a measure of conservation for the remnant forest habitat.
